The Dixie 3

A Story On Civil Rights in Nursing

Our documentary broke this story of triumph. A magical 25-minute cinematic docu-drama that takes the audience back to the 1963 landmark civil rights case known for ending segregation at Dixie Hospital in Hampton, Virginia.  The DIXIE 3, a name coined by film producer Denetra Hampton, orchestrated a sit-in at the hospital cafeteria, designated for whites only.  This film takes you along the process of the case and offers up a bigger conversation about structural racism in nursing and healthcare.

Producer, Denetra Hampton and Director of Photographer, Reid Kerley introduce the world to Civil Rights Icons, Mildred Smith, Patricia Taylor McKenzie and Agnes Stokes Chisman, and the civil rights case that changed integration in Hampton, Virginia forever.
