Pick Your Battles
Updated: Feb 26, 2019
Self-care strategies can come in many forms. One of my favorite strategies to ping every now and then is that of PICKING MY BATTLES. Life can be challenging when it comes to your physical and mental health. Whether you are managing depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress or a debilitating illness, it is important to know when to let go.
Research shows that people with recurrent depressions or those exposed to chronic stress accelerate aging. Studies indicate that stress, broadly defined as a situation “in which environmental demands, internal demands, or both, tax or exceed the adaptive resources of an individual, social system, or tissue system", is pervasive in today’s society, with nearly a third of Americans rating their average stress levels as extreme (8,9, or 10 on a 10-point scale where 10 corresponds to “a great deal of stress”.
This is alarming and should be taken seriously. And as an entrepreneur who wears many hats, I am very conscious of my emotional buttons, and work very hard to keep them in check. As I know it can affect my physical well-being. So, I always ping my go to strategy of PICKING MY BATTLES. How I manage is based on answering some tough questions.
