Describing For Nurses By Nurses Productions as merely enhancing education in the health sciences doesn't fully capture their impact. This past January, the innovative work of Scientific Storytelling at the production company joined forces with the City of Hampton to place a historical marker honoring three nurses who opposed segregation in 1963 at the old Dixie Hospital in Hampton, Virginia, they are now known as THE DIXIE 3. Furthermore, they are now working with the City of Norfolk to install the first bench in honor of Marjorie Tucker Reed, a nurse celebrated as one of THE BLACK ANGELS, whose contributions were pivotal in the fight against tuberculosis in 1951 at Seaview Hospital, Staten Island, New York.

The Bench Mark For Science Project is the production company community project that works to collaborate with Parks and Recreation around the country to advance the health sciences through scientific storytelling.

Advancing The Health Sciences Through Scientific Storytelling
Denetra Hampton, the visionary Founder at For Nurses By Nurses Productions, emphasizes that the work of scientific storytelling transcends mere communication; it embodies a profound cultural and community connection at its very core. Her approach to storytelling is not just a method of education; it is a scientific process that empowers understanding and engagement among diverse audiences about the history of health science and how scholars of their community have contributed.
By weaving narratives that resonate with personal experiences and cultural contexts, scientific storytelling becomes a bridge that links complex scientific concepts to the everyday lives of individuals within various communities. Through her work, Hampton advocates for the importance of recognizing the unique perspectives and backgrounds of different groups, which can significantly enhance the impact of scientific narratives.
In essence, the work of scientific storytelling, as articulated by Denetra Hampton, is an essential tool for cultivating a deeper appreciation of science across the health sciences. It encourages collaboration, promotes dialogue, and ultimately strengthens the ties that bind individuals and communities together through shared knowledge and experiences.
