For Nurses By Nurses Productions announces six-city film tour 2023, A WOMEN'S HISTORY FILM TOUR. The tour will begin the last week of February, Black History Month and end the last weekend of March, Women's History Month.
Denetra Hampton, Founder, Health Equity Officer will lead a candid conversation with nurses, advocates and the community about the intersection of history and health equity.
The tour will screen two films, The Black Angels: A Nurse's Story, which gives homage to 300 African American nurses who risked their lives to care for patients with tuberculosis during the 1940's pandemic at Seaview Hospital; when white nurses refused and The Dixie 3: A Story On Civil Rights in Nursing, highlights the 1963 cafeteria sit-in at Dixie Hospital, Hampton, Va., by three African American nurses who broke ground for nursing education integration.
" As a filmmaker I have become aware of how important history is to our healing. Without a doubt education is the fundamental determinant of our health, and story-telling is a powerful weapon." said Producer, Denetra Hampton.
The tour is expected to hit museums and libraries throughout Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina. Audiences can expect a screening and then a panel discussion with producer, directors and some members of the casts.
